Heather Sky Fulton
Heather's work is comprised of heavily textured collage and acrylic paint on board or canvas. She frequently adds ink and colored pencil to define illustrative elements. Whether working privately or on commission, the collage base is a mix of personal notes, tickets, letters, maps, receipts, tissue paper, foil, or antiquated music scores, all collected over years of Heather’s life, Preserving the transparency of the paint in certain areas allows the details of the original items to remain clear and defines the theme of the work. Imagery is then super-imposed to tell the story. Heather doesn’t paint sketch to finish; her story ideas are devised by identifying characters/features that appear within the abstract collage forms.  In this way, the work remains a constant surprise to her, prolonging her interest in its development.

Titles are crucial to Heather’s work. They’re drawn from literature, friend’s phrases, radio sound bites, children's theories, and poems she’s written or read. The images are as much literary as they are visual – Intriguing titles enhance curiosity about the story, and the painting takes on multiple meanings.  The viewer can choose to hold onto their personal assessment, or allow the title to inform their impression. Either way, the painting remains dynamic. Each work is unique and based entirely on one narrative or idea. No prints or reproductions exist.

Michael Metzger: On Art, Mushrooms and Chuck Barris
The latest artist to turn our lobby into a Gallery in the Riverlution Community Arts Project is Michael Metzger; a crazy genius with tiny scissors, a toothache and a history of campy television.
